Chennai Super Kings skipper, MS Dhoni played every game for his team in the Indian Premier League 2023 despite having a sore knee. Shortly after his side won the IPL title for a record-breaking sixth time, Dhoni had surgery on his left knee. The former captain of India has promised, though, to play at least one more season if his physical condition allows.
Dhoni agreed that the best opportunity to retire would have been after the championship during the post-final ceremony. However, he reaffirmed his intention to play in the upcoming season, even though it means going through a demanding nine-month recovery period. Dhoni intends to start the healing process after a three-week recovery period following surgery as he sees it as a gift to his loyal supporters.
Kasi Viswanathan, CEO of CSK, visited Dhoni in Mumbai to get an update on his health and ensure his well-being. Viswanathan underlined that since Dhoni is completely aware of his goals and the best strategy for accomplishing them, there is no need to enquire about this date again.
“He is well aware of what needs to be done and how to proceed, so we have no need to inquire about his plans or methods. He will take the initiative to inform us himself. Whatever tasks he undertakes, he will first contact and share the details exclusively with Mr N Srinivasan, without involving anyone else,” Viswanathan stated.
“In practice, he will be direct and forthcoming in his communication with Mr Srinivasan. Through him, we will receive the necessary information about his actions and decisions. This has been the established practice since 2008, and it will continue in the same manner,” he added.
Viswanathan Highlighted How MS Dhoni Went About Entire IPL 2023 Without Complaining About His Knee Injury
Viswanathan also revealed that before the final match, Dhoni did not express worries about his knee. He clearly struggled to move, but he did not make a complaint to anyone during the tournament. It wasn’t until after the final match that he decided to get surgery. Dhoni was happy with the procedure’s results and is currently going through a successful rehabilitation phase.
As the IPL 2024 approaches, supporters of the Chennai Super Kings can revel in the possibility of seeing MS Dhoni return to the pitch, proving his unflinching commitment to the game and fighting spirit.
