WTC Final 2023: The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) recently concluded in the final week of May 2023. The Indian cricket team soon left for London to feature in the Final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023. Unfortunately, Indians failed to battle it out against the mighty Australian pace attack and lost 5 wickets for 151 runs at the stumps on Day 2.
Many reasons are being accredited to India’s poor batting display at IPL. The majority of the fans have blamed the conduct of IPL just before the WTC Final to be the reason for India’s probable failure against Australia. The WTC Final is currently underway at the Oval in London where Australia put up a stunning 469-runs total in the first innings.
Many Fans took to social media and express their anguish for players underperforming in WTC Final due to IPL. Fans believe that the players are really tired and exhausted due to the two-month-long tournament that started on 31st March. The Players reportedly did not have enough time to rest before battling it out in the ultimate championship.
Also, the format and conditions at IPL were totally different from that of the WTC Final 2023. This is also believed to be a prominent reason for India’s dissatisfactory performance.
Other key reasons are:
- India did not get enough time to equip themselves with English conditions.
- Rohit Sharma & Co. did not get any practice matches before the final
- Australian players were fresh and came with more intensity than tired Indian cricketers as the majority of them also skipped IPL.
- The bowler’s line and length were also tailored due to the limited-overs format of the game.
WTC Final 2023 Day 3:
Indian Team started Day 3 on 151/5 with Ajinkya Rahane unbeaten on 29* and KS Bharat (5 runs). India lost Bharat cheaply while Rahane continues to put up a fight as he completed his half-century and helped India avert follow on. The struggling Indian team now only has Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur who can bat a bit to avoid the follow-on. However, Australia continues to have a grip over the game going into Day 3.
