ICC WC Qualifier 2023: Zimbabwe will be taking on Scotland in match number six of the Super Sixes in the ICC World Cup qualifiers 2023 on Tuesday. Both teams are very much in contention for qualifiers and both would be treating this one as a must-win contest.
Zimbabwe have picked three wins in 4 matches and another win would surely tighten their grip in qualifying for the World Cup in India. They registered three consecutive wins before losing their last match against Sri Lanka.
It was a disappointing batting performance from them with the bat against Sri Lanka. The man in form, Sean Williams scored another half-century, however, the other batters failed to hit the straps.
The opening duo of Gumbie (0) and Ervine (14) got out cheaply, while Madhevere could score only 1 run. Sikandar Raza looked good during his 31-run knock in 51 balls but he too couldn’t convert that into a big one.
The lower-order didn’t contribute much as well but Zimbabwe batters would be looking to stage a strong comeback. Sean Williamson has been in phenomenal form with the bat and a lot will be on his shoulders as far as the batting is concerned. He is currently the highest run-scorer in the tournament with close to 600 runs to his name in 6 matches.
Sikandar Raza Has Been Zimbabwe’s Trump Card
Sikandar Raza has also performed quite well with 291 runs to his name in 6 matches. Both will be the players to watch out for. With the ball, Richard Ngarava has been their go-to bowler. He, currently, has 13 wickets to his name in 6 matches.
On the other hand, Scotlands have 2 wins in 3 matches and would be looking to win one more to strengthen their chances of reaching the next stage. They are coming on the back of a 7-wicket win over West Indies and, thus, would be riding high on confidence.
Scotland bundled out West Indies for just 181 runs on the board. Brandon McCullen picked up three wickets, while the likes of Sole, Leask and Greaves returned with two wickets each. In reply, Scotland chased down the total quite comfortably in 43.3 overs with 7 wickets in hand. Matthew Cross (wk) played an unbeaten knock of 74 runs in 107 balls, while McMullen also amassed 69 off 106. It will be interesting to see if Scotland maintains the winning run in the competition.
