Ahead of the WTC Final 2023, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently in discussions with the ECB to organize a practice match for the Indian cricket team against a County XI.
Before India and Australia’s much-awaited World Test Championship, the match is scheduled to take place. The practice game’s important purpose is to train the Indian players for the pitch and ground conditions in England.
“We are in talks with the ECB if we can play a practice game. The idea is to have some red-ball practice before the final. We will know in a few days if the plan works out. It will help us in match simulations and acclimatise to the conditions,” a senior BCCI official.
The BCCI is resolute in ensuring that the Indian team receives ample preparation time to ready themselves for the WTC Finals. Nonetheless, the ECB has not yet affirmed their concurrence on practice matches. The exhibition match presents an opportunity for the players to receive vital red ball training and prepare themselves for the final’s conditions.
A number of players won’t be available for the practice match versus County XI since they are playing in the ongoing Indian Premier League, according to senior authorities of the BCCI.
Players that have qualified for the IPL 2023 finals will also not play in the practice game. Before they join the team for the WTC Finals, they will be given a few days to rest.
A major final like the WTC requires thorough preparation and planning, and the BCCI will go above and beyond to make sure the Indian squad is prepared.
