The LSG skipper earlier announced that he would be undergoing surgery following which he would head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehab.
Kishan has played in 14 ODIs and 27 T20Is so far but has not received a Test cricket cap. After KS Bharat, who just made his Test debut against Australia in February of this year in Rishabh Pant’s absence, he is the second wicketkeeper in India’s WTC squad.
Kishan played just two games during the most recent Ranji Trophy season but managed to score 180 runs while averaging 45. He has played 48 first-class matches so far for 2985 runs at an average of 38.76 with six hundred.
BCCI to take a call on Unadkat’s availability for the WTC Final soon
Meanwhile, Jaydev Unadkat has also been ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2023 due to injury. According to a BCCI release, a decision about Jaydev Unadkat’s participation in the WTC final would be made later. He injured his left shoulder while training for the IPL and has travelled to Mumbai for scans.
Furthermore, Kolkata Knight Rider’s Umesh Yadav has also joined the injury list of Indian players after sustaining a thigh injury during KKR’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore last month. He hasn’t played for the team since and BCCI is monitoring his health. There are still hopes for his return.
In the meantime, Mukesh Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been selected as reserve players for the WTC final against Australia. Only Suryakumar among them has played in a Test match, making his debut against Australia at Nagpur in February.
