BAN vs AFG: Bangladesh has suffered a major setback as a result of Tamim Iqbal’s withdrawal from the next one-off Test against Afghanistan. Due to his inability to fully recover from his persistent back problems, the game’s opener has been ruled out.
Tamim’s availability had been eagerly awaited by the Bangladesh team management after head coach Chandika Hathurusingha promised that a decision would be made before evening. Tamim’s lower back issue, which has troubled him frequently, has unfortunately not healed enough for him to take part in the Test match.
In a statement released National Team physio Muzadded Alpha Sany explained on Tuesday, “Tamim has been experiencing lower back issues which has troubled him from time to time. Our treatment and procedures focused on reducing the pain and improving his functional ability, but sadly, his health hasn’t improved sufficiently for him to play the Test match.”
Muzadded Alpha Sany said, “He has felt stiffness and pain while batting and fielding in training and has not been able to complete the physical preparation required to play for five days.”
BAN vs AFG: Bangladesh will use a new opening stand for the one-off Test
Bangladesh will use a new opening partnership for the Test match, according to BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin, who confirmed that Tamim won’t be replaced. Both Mahmudul Hasan and Zakir Hasan, who will be returning in a longer format, are expected to fill the position.
Tamim sought to figure out his physical condition by batting for almost 20 minutes in the nets, yet his problems persisted. He joined the team meeting that was conducted in the evening, but he wasn’t actually participating, he was only there to support the other teammates.
For the one-off Test, Bangladesh will also be playing without Shakib Al Hasan in addition to Tamim. The team is still hopeful that Shakib will be able to recover in time for the ODI and T20I matches against Afghanistan, which is set to take place the first week of July.
