BAN vs AFG Test: Bangladesh posted a mammoth total of 362 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of day 1 of the only Test match against Afghanistan at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
On a green track with overcast conditions, Afghanistan seemed to have decided to bowl first. Debutant Nijat Masood accounted for the wicket of Zakir Hasan on the very first ball of his first over as well to put the hosts on the back foot, straightway.
However, little did Afghanistan know what was to follow next. Najmul Hossain Shanto then joined hands with M Hasan Joy and the duo stitched a sensational second-wicket partnership of 212 runs.
The duo played outstanding knocks and that was helped by some undisciplined bowling from Afghanistan bowlers. It was Shanto, who was the aggressor in the partnership, while Joy was happy to play as the second fiddle.
Shanto reached his half-century in just 58 deliveries. He went on to play a sensational knock of 146 runs in just 175 deliveries. Joy, on the other hand, amassed 76 off 137 balls.
Afghanistan bowled much better in the third session as they managed to claim three more wickets. Masood had Mominul Haque edged behind, while, Hamza accounted for the wicket of Shanto in the 58th over.
Litton Das, the skipper, couldn’t stay for too long as Zahir Khan accounted for his wicket, a few overs, later. Afghanistan couldn’t pick any wicket, as Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz stayed solid during their stay at the crease.
Rahim is, currently, unbeaten on 41 off 69 balls, while Mehidy Hasan Miran is also playing equally well for his unbeaten knock of 43 off 66. For Afghanistan, Nijat Masood has been the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 for 67, while the likes of Zahir Khan, Amir Hamza, and Rahmat Shah have picked one wicket each.
