AFG vs BAN: Mohammad Shahzad has been included in the Afghanistan Cricket Board team for the coming two-match T20I series against Bangladesh, along with fast bowler Wafadar Momand, who has never played for his country.
As Afghanistan prepares ready for the T20 World Cup in 2024, which will be planned in the USA and the West Indies, makes this series is important, which will begin after the three-match ODI series from July 5 to 11.
Due to his outstanding performances in domestic cricket, Mohammad Shahzad, who last participated in a T20I match against New Zealand in 2021, has been re-inducted into the squad. Asadullah Khan, the chief selector for the ACB, highlighted the necessity for a dependable backup option for the opening position.
Khan showed his confidence in Shahzad’s skills for T20Is, stating, “He shows that he is ready for T20Is, and we are starting the process now for the next T20 World Cup.”
In advance of the T20 World Cup, the selection panel is using this series to evaluate players to determine their positions in the team. Talented fast bowler Wafadar Momand was selected for the squad due to his incredible pace and showed skills in training camps and domestic cricket.
Asadullah underlined the board’s drive to carefully assess individuals before agreeing on the final roster for the upcoming World Cup.
Afsar Zazai, Usman Ghani, Sharafadullah Ashraf, and previous national captain Gulbadin Naib were not retained, but Mohammad Shahzad and Wafadar Momand rejoined the team.
Asadullah made it clear that this decision is not the result of Naib’s growing age but a result of the ongoing evaluation procedure used to choose a squad for the future.
AFG vs BAN T20Is to commence on July 14
After the ODI series, the T20I series against Bangladesh will begin with matches set for July 14 and 16 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Afghanistan will have an excellent opportunity to polish its methods and strategies as they get ready for the T20 World Cup.
