Veteran England cricketer Rebecca Grundy has been appointed as the Perth Scorchers Head Coach. Grundy has signed a two-year contract with the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) franchise, which emerged victorious in the 2021-22 edition of the championship.
Rebecca Grundy has been associated with the Scorchers for a brief period. Grundy served as the Assistant Coach for Scorchers for the last three seasons and is now geared up to take up an integral and eminent responsibility of the surging T20 side.
Rebecca Grundy will replace Shelley Nitschke, who had an exemplary stint with the franchise as the Perth Scorchers Head Coad. Nitschke is set to take up crucial responsibilities for Australia’s national women’s team as she will be occupied with some coaching duties. Notably, Australian women clinched their sixth T20 World Cup title last night after defeating South Africa in the final.

Rebecca Grundy joined Western Australia’s team management setup as a development coach after she announced her retirement from professional cricket in 2020. She was announced as the Head Coach of the side prior to the Women’s National Cricket League.
Grundy is also the incumbent Head Coach of the Western Australia Women’s contingent. She has assured us to oblige the necessary commitments for both sides and stated that she is excited towards the new opportunity and is looking forward to yielding positive results for Perth Scorchers in the near future.
Addressing the media, Grundy stated that she is extremely delighted to take up the new role for Perth Scorchers and her aim will be driven towards achieving long-term success for the franchise. Furthermore, she mentioned that former Head Coach Shelley has been a fascinating mentor for her and she will enlighten Scorchers in the footsteps of Nitschke.
Rebecca Grundy had a short-lived but impactful career for England Women’s National cricket team. She made her debut in March 2014 and has represented the side in 7 ODI’s and 12 T20I’s before retiring after six years.
