SL-W vs NZ-W: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the Women’s squad for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand. SLC Selection Committee has named a 15-member squad that will battle it out against the White Ferns in a three-match series.
Chamari Athapaththu has been once again appointed as the Captain. Chamari has been in exceptional form throughout the season and has been assigned with a crucial responsibility yet again.
Nilakshi de Silva has stormed into the ODI squad after an instrumental performance in the T20 International circuit. Nilakshi has scored 152 runs in 7 matches so far. She has scored runs at a phenomenal average of 52. de Silva will be Sri Lanka’s key asset against the impressive New Zealand side.
Apart from Chamari, Sri Lanka’s experienced unit consists of Oshadi Ranasinghe and Udeshika Prabhodini. They will pave the way for stiff resistance against New Zealand. The selectors have ensured a fine balance between the seniors and youngsters and have also inducted emerging cricketers Vishmi Gunaratne, Kavisha Dilhari and Harshita Samarwickrama in the squad.
Sri Lanka last played an ODI series against their Asian counterpart Bangladesh. Chamari & Co. clinched a decisive 1-0 series victory as the other two ODI’s were called off due to rain. Harshitha and Chamari led Sri Lanka to a victory in the solitary rain-curtailed 30 overs game of the series.
New Zealand has suffered a major blow ahead of the series as pacer Jess Kerr has been ruled out after sustaining an injury. She will be replaced by spinning sensation Leigh Kasperek.
