Sonia Mendhiya is an Indian cricketer that rose to prominence for being part of the Under 19 Indian team that went on to win the inaugural ICC Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023. Post the success she became a household name across the country.
Sonia Mendhiya Cricketer Biography
She was born on 20th March 2004 to Rajpal Mendhiya and Saroj Mendhiya in Rohtak, Haryana. She has two elder sisters and one younger brother in the family. Sonia’s father passed when she was 4 putting all the responsibilities on her mother’s shoulders.
Her mother started working in Anganwadi to feed the entire family. Back at home Sonia started playing cricket along with children nearby and fell in love with the game.
After some time, she decided to make her career in cricket and told her mother about it. Despite their poor financial condition her mother encouraged her to take up sports as a career looking at her dedication and seriousness.
At the age of 13, she took admitted to the Shri Ram Academy on Jhajjar road, Rohtak and use travelled alone 20-25 km from her village to the cricket academy.
