AUS vs SA: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has finally announced the much-anticipated schedule of the Proteas home season for the 2023-24 cricketing season. South Africa will welcome and host Australia for a three-match T20I and a five-match ODI series that is set to take place in August-September 2023.
The first leg of the white-ball bilateral series will consist of the three-match T20I series that will begin on August 30. The Kingsmead Stadium in Durban will host all three fixtures that will take place on August 30, September 1 and September 3 respectively.
The arch-rivals will then head to a riveting five-match ODI series in view of the upcoming World Cup in India. The series will begin on September 7 at Bloemfontein. Bloemfontein will host the first two games on the 7th and 9th of September. The action will then move to Potchefstroom, Johannesburg and Centurion where the rest of the three games will be played respectively.
Though South Africa has so far not earned a direct qualification to the marquee World Cup event in India, they have almost ensured their place since the ball is in the court of Ireland who not only have to defeat Bangladesh in their upcoming ODI series but also ensure a healthy net run rate.
Addressing the media, CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki said that in view of the upcoming crucial international events, it is necessary to set the foundation and the board is keen to give as much as possible match practice to all the players.
Australia had last toured South Africa in 2020 where they overpowered the hosts by sweeping the ODI series by 3-0. They also registered a clinical 2-1 victory in the T20I series. South Africa will likely aim to take an act of bitter revenge against the mighty Aussies and set their combination before the World Cup.
