AUS vs WI: Australia has made a great start to the T20I series against West Indies and would be looking to win the series ahead of the second game on Friday. The Gabba stadium will play host the much-anticipated encounter between two top teams. Australia won the first T20I by 3 wickets.
West Indies batted first and put on a reasonable score of 145 runs in the first innings. The batting unit crumbled against a top-notch Australian bowling attack. Thanks to K Mayers, West Indies made a decent start in the power play but also lost two wickets in the form of J Charles and Brandon King.
Run-rate dropped after the power play and West Indies lost Mayer (39 off 36) in the 10th over. The likes of Reifer (19 off 23), Pooran (2), and Powell (7) failed to impress as wickets kept falling in short intervals.
A crucial 17-ball 27-run cameo from Odean Smith helped the team reach a reasonable score. The pace attack did wonders, once again, as Cummins, Hazlewood, and Starc combined to pick 8 wickets between each other.
Australia didn’t make a great start either. Both Warner (14) and Green (14) were guilty of not converting the starts into a big score. Mitchell Marsh (3), Glenn Maxwell (0) and Tim David (0) also fell cheaply but Aaron Finch stepped up to the task and played a match-winning knock of 58 runs in 53 deliveries. He was supported by Mathew Wade, who continued his top-form with a 29-ball 39. Aaron Finch’s return to form should be a big positive for Australia going forward.
