The West Indies Cricket team have missed their chance to earn a direct qualification for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 that is scheduled to take place in India from October to November. The Caribbean’s suffered a setback as South Africa defeated Netherlands in the recently concluded ODI series to edge past them in the World Cup Super League Standings.
Notably, the West Indies, Sri Lanka and South Africa were pitched in a battle for the ultimate spot in the World Cup Super League standings. Sri Lanka has completed all their fixtures and has ended in the 10th position with 81 points in their tally. Though they were already out of the race, all eyes were on the Proteas who were facing the Dutch.
With South Africa beating the Netherlands, it crushed the hopes of West Indies who were in 8th position with 88 points. West Indies have also ended all their Super League fixtures and were dependent on the Netherlands. However, South Africa comfortably defeated the Dutch to end with 98 points in their account and now holds the 8th position in the standings.
