The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday committed an unexpected blunder by putting India as the No. 1 test team in the ICC Test rankings. India is currently placed in second position behind Australia but contrarily edge passed the mighty Aussies by a technical glitch on ICC’s website.
The incumbent World No. 1 test team Australia has 126 rating points in their kitty. However, they were given only 111 points due to which Rohit Sharma & Co. having 115 rating points were displayed above the Kangaroos. An unforced error gave an unfair advantage to the Indians for a very short span of time after which the apex global body identified and rectified the error.
Though ICC’s website glitch is a clear technical error, it also portrayed the signs of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar test series between India and Australia. If India manages to outplay the visitors, they have a high chance to seize the top spot from the in-form Australian contingent.
India will host Australia for a four-match test series that constitutes an integral element of the ongoing edition of the World Test Championship. The first test match is will get underway on February 9 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
Australia is currently number 1 in ICC Test Rankings
Both sides have been in exceptional form in the ongoing season. Australia recently powered thunderous victories against England, West Indies and South Africa to ensure their spot in the World Test Championship Final in June.
On the other hand, India will have to defeat Australia to seal their spot in the final. They recently defeated Bangladesh by 2-0 to stand their chances of qualification. With ace cricketers Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah back in the side, the hosts will likely aim to retain the prestigious trophy.
