India recently saw victory colours in the second match of their series against Bangladesh in the ICC World Test Championship. With this win, all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer significantly advanced in their ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings.
Star spinner Ashwin rose a rank to join the joint-four club of bowlers along with fast-pacer Jasprit Bumrah of India after ending the game with six wickets under his name. Ashwin even moved up three slots to 84th rank in the batsman list. He gathered 42 runs not out in the second innings steering to India’s victory with three wickets.
Previously, Ashwin once crowned the charts of bowlers and all-rounders, inched up with seven points ranking 2nd in the all-rounder’s list. The list is presently led by Ravindra Jadeja with 369 points and Ashwin at 343.
On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer attained his career-best rank of 16th in the batsman’s league. Iyer shared an unbroken partnership with Ashwin of 71 runs, leading India to victory. The right-handed batsman scored 87 and 29 not out in each inning, respectively, which elevated him ten ranks from 26th to 16th. The previous rank was his best up until now.
ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings: Rishabh Pant top ranks among Indian batters
Indian batsman Rishabh Pant remains the top-ranked batter in the country with 6th place in the batsman’s chart. He gained three points after scoring 93 in the first innings. Fast bowler Umesh Yadav inched up five places attaining the 33rd rank in the bowler’s list after he gained five wickets under his name in the match.
As for Bangladesh, batter Litton Das positioned himself in the 12th place which is his career-best yet after scoring 25 and 73 in each inning. Mominul Haque moved up five places to 68th, Zakir Hasan to joint 70th rank and Narul Hasan to 93rd rank moving up five ranks.
Several Bangladesh bowlers also gained on their rankings like spinners Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz rose two spots ranking 28th and 29th each. Taijul gathered four wickets while Mehidy gathered six in the match. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan up his rank by one place ranking 32nd after taking six wickets in the match.
