Australian leg-spinner Peter Hatzoglou has signed for British side Glamorgan for a short-term deal for the ongoing Vitality Blast fixtures. The Greek-Australian cricketer has been roped in for at least three matches following the departure of compatriot Michael Neser to a national training camp. If Neser continues to remain unavailable, Hatzoglou’s deal with the team would likely be extended.
Hatzoglou had only recently arrived for a stint in Essex club cricket when Glamorgan made their move. On Sunday, May 28, he made his Glamorgan debut against Somerset in the current T20 blast, however, he failed to make an impression. Despite the fact that he scored 15 runs on eight pitches in the first inning. With the ball, the cricketer conceded 50 runs in four overs, indicating that there is still much potential for growth.
Hatzoglou, though, indicated before making his debut for the Kiran Carlson-led side that he is really excited to play for the club and is keen to make an impression.
“It’s a fast-moving world in the T20 arena, I don’t know how long I’ll be here for but I’m really excited to play and make an impact,” BBC Sport Wales quoted Hatzoglou as saying.
“Ness’ has been called up into the Australian squad and I wasn’t too far away in Essex, playing for Buckhurst Hill, so I got the call-up.
“It’s been really good to have some success playing with Perth Scorchers over the last couple of years and some experience in The Hundred with the Oval Invincibles, so I’m sure it’ll be a nice transition into the Blast,” Hatzoglou added.
Peter Hatzoglou comes with a fair T20 experience prior to entering Vitality Blast
The 24-year-old has competed in T20 tournaments all around the world. A limited-overs specialist, Hatzoglou has played in the Big Bash League for Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades. He has featured for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League as well as a stint with the Oval Invincibles in The Hundred last year.
The Aussie has played 40 T20 matches in his career, including a stint with Pakistan’s Peshawar Zalmi. Despite not playing first-class cricket, he has grabbed 42 wickets.
Hatzoglou is expected to face Middlesex away on May 31 and Kent at home on June 2, with any extension contingent on his performance and Neser’s availability.
