As per recent reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is planning to shift the T20 World Cup 2024 venue to England. The big ticket event was scheduled in West Indies and the USA. However, due to a lack of preparation by the latter country, ICC is planning to shift the tournament to a new venue.
The current infrastructure in the USA doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence and, hence, the ICC is sceptical about going ahead with their plan. It is to be noted that England, Netherlands, and Ireland were given the hosting rights for the 2030 T20 World Cup.
However, ICC will likely request England to host the 2024 World Cup. Only 12 months are left for the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup to take place and, it looks like an improbable task for the USA, currently, to meet the required standards of infrastructure set by ICC.
WI, USA likely to co-host T20 World Cup 2030
In all probabilities, it looks like England would host the tournament. ICC wants to do a swap and is confident in the idea of handing over the hosting rights of the T20 World Cup 2024 edition to England, Ireland and Scotland.
It also means that West Indies and the USA would then co-host the 2030 T20 World Cup. That will also give enough time for the USA to prepare for the tournament.
“There is a situation at hand. The current infrastructure situation in the USA is not very encouraging and it is likely that the ICC could well swap the hosts for the 2024 and 2030 editions of the event. It will also allow USA Cricket to get the infrastructure in order before 2030 and allow them to set the house in order too. Right now, it will be a rushed process to get the venues ready. England were already allotted the 2030 World Cup and they, unlike other nations, can host an event in June-July,” a source was quoted as saying by News18.
