The United States of America Cricket (USAC) and International Cricket Council (ICC) have ruled out the reports of a probable shift in the hosting rights of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The West Indies and USA are set to jointly host the marquee edition of the championship.
Previously, reports had surfaced that the USA is lacking proper cricketing infrastructure that is adequate to host the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. However, USAC stated that the doubts will be off air post the successful conclusion of the Major League Cricket (MLC).
A top USAC official stated that they haven’t had any discussions with ICC regarding hosting of the event but the board is continuously in the process to build the necessary infrastructure for the event. Furthermore, he stated that the rumours that are spreading are absolutely neutral and acceptable since the USA does not have experience in hosting major cricket events.
Meanwhile, the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC) is set to begin on July 13 and will run till July 30. A total of six franchises are set to participate in the ultimate championship that will lay the foundation of professional cricket in the USA.
ICC confirms no concern regarding shifting of T20 World Cup 2024
An ICC official also addressed the media and confirmed that there are no concerns regarding shifting the T20 World Cup out of the West Indies or the USA. The ICC is keen to collaborate with the cricket boards of both nations to ensure the smooth conduct of the championship.
Oakland, Florida and Los Angeles are considered to be the favourite venues to host the World Cup. Grounds in the USA are shorter, which will make the contest more high-scoring and exciting. Interestingly, the Indian team has previously played a couple of fixtures in the USA against West Indies. They will also play two T20Is later in August 2023.
