With the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 in action, many on-field and off-field controversies spark up on a day-to-day basis. Topping that currently is the well-known rivalry between former India captain Virat Kohli and former BCCI president, Saurav Ganguly.
On Saturday, Kohli was on fire against Delhi Capitals as RCB won the game at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The controversy between Ganguly and Kohli reignited in the match as the latter was seen giving a cold stare at Ganguly in the Delhi Capitals dugout after taking Aman Khan’s catch in the 18th over of the second innings. What followed was an incident post-match, where Kohli refused to shake hands with Ganguly. The viral video showed Ganguly avoiding a handshake with Kohli and jumping the line to move forward while Virat was talking to Ricky Ponting.
Following this controversy, Virat Kohli unfollowed Saurav Ganguly on the popular social media platform, Instagram. Kohli’s ‘following’ section earlier used to show Ganguly’s name, which currently is not the case. As per reports, earlier he used to follow 276 Instagram accounts including Ganguly’s handle.
Kohli-Ganguly controversy into play way ahead of IPL 2023
The Kohli-Ganguly controversy started way back in 2021 when India played South Africa with Saurav Ganguly as the president of BCCI. Kohli was sacked as the captain of Team India before their tour to South Africa. BCCI did not have any prior discussion with him regarding the change in captaincy and claimed a bold Virat. He was informed about the decision just hours before the team’s departure to South Africa over a phone call. But, Ganguly said that he asked Virat not to quit the T20I captaincy as the board never wanted a split captaincy.
Virat brilliantly scored yet another fifty in the match, which makes him the leading RCB batsman with 213 runs in just 4 matches at an average of 71. RCB is currently in seventh place on the points table with four points in their bag whereas DC is placed last with nil points yet.
