The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the most decorated and fascinating cricketing league in the world. Rajasthan Royals (2008)
The Rajasthan Royals franchise was crowned as the champions at the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. Rajasthan defeated M.S Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the final. The defiant Rajasthan Royals franchise was led by Australian spinner Shane Warne.
Yusuf Pathan played an impressive role in the final whereas Shane Watson was monumental throughout the championship as he was named as the Man of the Series. Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir had piloted the bowling attack for the Royals.
2. Deccan Chargers (2009)
The southern-based Deccan Chargers franchise emerged victorious in the 2009 edition of IPL that was conducted in South Africa due to the Indian General Elections. Led by Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, Deccan Chargers defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 runs in the Final.
Skipper Adam Gilchrist was phenomenal throughout the season as he was named Man of the Series. Bangalore skipper Anil Kumble won the Man of the Match award for his exemplary performance despite losing the game.
3. Chennai Super Kings (2010)
The Yellow Army of Chennai Super Kings clinched their maiden IPL title in 2010. The pioneer of the franchise’s victory was skipper M S Dhoni. Chennai Super Kings defeated their arch-rivals Mumbai in the Final by 22 runs.
Suresh Raina was the architect of Chennai’s victory in the final. He was consistent throughout the season. Legendary Indian batsman and maestro Sachin Tendulkar was awarded the Man of the Series award for his plethora of runs.
4. Chennai Super Kings (2011)
Chennai Super Kings sustained their winning run and bagged the luminous IPL Trophy once again in 2011. MS Dhoni & co. overpowered Royal Challengers Bangalore by 56 runs in the ultimate final to record their second title victory.
Frontline batsman Murali Vijay paved the way for Chennai’s scintillating victory in the final. RCB’s Chris Gayle was adjudged as the Man of the Series.
5. Kolkata Knight Riders (2012)
Kolkata Knight Riders broke the winning streak of Chennai Super Kings and won their maiden title in 2012 under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. Kolkata defeated defending champions Chennai in the finals of the event. Manvinder Bisla was ruthless in the final and led Kolkata’s batting attack. Sunil Narine was named as the Man of the Series.
6. Mumbai Indians (2013)
The triumphant Mumbai Indians contingent won their first-ever IPL title in 2013. Rohit Sharma led Mumbai’s charge as they defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final through a convincing performance. Kieron Pollard was the man responsible for Mumbai’s final victory whereas Shane Watson was named as the Man of the series.
7. Kolkata Knight Riders (2014)
Kolkata Knight Riders grabbed their second IPL title by defeating first-time finalists Kings XI Punjab. Gambhir & co. marched on to claim the trophy through a thumping performance in the season. Manish Pandey played the pivotal role for KKR in the final whereas Glenn Maxwell was named as the Man of the Series.
8. Mumbai Indians (2015)
Mumbai Indians once again rose through the ranks and outplayed Chennai Super Kings in an El-Classico IPL Final in 2015. With this victory, Rohit Sharma & Co. clinched their second title. Skipper Rohit Sharma played a decisive role in the final whereas Andre Russell was adjudged as the Man of the Series.
9. Sunrisers Hyderabad (2016)
Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise won their maiden IPL title in 2016 by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. David Warner & Co. deprived RCB of a title for the third time in the history of the tournament. Ben Cutting was the hero of the Final for Hyderabad whereas Virat Kohli bagged the Man of the Series award.
10. Mumbai Indians (2017)
Mumbai Indians registered their third title victory by defeating Dhoni’s Rising Pune Supergiants franchise in the final of 2017. With this victory, they became the then-most successful franchise at IPL.
Krunal Pandya played an instrumental role in the finals whereas Ben Stokes was awarded the Man of the Series title.
11. Chennai Super Kings (2018)
Back in IPL after a two-year ban, Chennai Super Kings bagged a victory and grabbed the IPL trophy for the third time. M.S Dhoni once again led his team to a commanding victory. Shane Watson was the Man of the Match whereas Sunil Narine was named as the Man of the Series.
12. Mumbai Indians (2019)
Mumbai Indians clinched their fourth IPL title by defeating Chennai Super Kings by 1 run in a thrilling final. Sharma once again helped Mumbai Indians to regain supremacy. Jasprit Bumrah was the architect of Mumbai’s victory in the final whereas Andre Russell was named Man of the Series.
13. Mumbai Indians (2020)
Mumbai Indians bagged another IPL trophy in 2020 and became the second team to grab a successive title victory. Mumbai displayed their dominance through this victory as they had five titles in their kitty. Trent Boult was impressive in the Final whereas Jofra Archer was the Man of the Series.
14. Chennai Super Kings (2021)
Chennai Super Kings won the covid interrupted IPL in Dubai after they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. With this victory, Chennai won their fourth title. Faf du Plessis was named the Man of the Match whereas Harshal Patel won the ‘Man of the Series’ title.
15. Gujarat Titans (2022)
The newly introduced franchise Gujarat Titans bagged their maiden title in their first-ever IPL. Led by Hardik Pandya, Gujarat defeated Rajasthan Royals in the final of IPL 2022. Hardik Pandya played a crucial role in Gujarat’s final victory whereas Jos Buttler was adjudged as the Man of the Series.
16. Chennai Super Kings (2023)
Chennai Super Kings clinched their fifth IPL title with a clinical victory in the final against Gujarat Titans. Jadeja busted Chennai in a thrilling final over-finish as Chennai jointly emerged as the most successful franchise in IPL. For his heroics, Devon Conway was named as the Man of the Match whereas Shubman Gill won the Man of the Series award.
