MS Dhoni led the way for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title last night. Chennai Super Kings outplayed defending champions Gujarat Titans in a thrilling final by five wickets. The fans were on the edge of their seats as Ravindra Jadeja smashed two vital boundaries when Chennai required 10 runs off 2 balls.
However, the delighted Chennai Super Kings franchise was keener on the decision of M.S Dhoni’s retirement. Dhoni had reportedly been featuring in his last IPL season but he has now relieved the fans as he has announced that he will try his level best to return back in IPL 2024.
MS Dhoni Likely to Play His Last Season in IPL 2024
Speculations related to Dhoni’s retirement have now been rested after Thala addressed everyone at the post-match presentation ceremony. Since Chennai won a much-awaited title, Dhoni had a remarkable opportunity to end his career on a glorious note but he has now stated that he will try to maintain his fitness for all the fans in order to return in 2024.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Dhoni stated that- “This is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love I have received all over. The easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be working hard for 9 months and trying to play another IPL. It would be a gift from me, won’t be easy on the body.”
Dhoni was also overwhelmed by the incredible support of the fans and Chennai’s victory. He stated that, “You do get emotional, the first game at CSK everyone was chanting my name. My eyes were full of water, I needed to take some time off in the dugout. I realized I need to enjoy this. I think they love me for what I am, they love that I am so grounded, I don’t try to portray something I’m not. Just keep it simple.”
Coming to the final, Gujarat Titans were absolutely thundering in their first innings as they posted a thumping 214 runs total in 20 overs. Sai Sudarshan (96) was the architect of Gujarat’s batting attack.
Chasing a mammoth 215-run target, rain interrupted the play and Chennai’s target was now twitched to 171 runs in 15 overs. Conway (47), Dube (32)* Ruturaj (26), Rahane (27), Rayudu (19) whereas Jadeja added the cherry to the cake by encountering a decisive victory as he smashed a six and a four when Chennai required 10 runs of 2 balls.
