Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings are set to face off in the IPL 2023 final match in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. But as a result of the interruption caused by bad weather, the match had to be postponed to the reserve day of May 29, 2023.
The final game of the season, which was originally scheduled for May 28 (Sunday), was ruined due to rain. Due to the sporadic precipitation, both the closing ceremony and the coin toss were delayed. The rain momentarily stopped around 9 o’clock (IST), but it quickly began again. Eventually, it was revealed that the match will be moved to Monday at 10:55 pm (IST).
Let’s now analyse the different scenarios that can occur if the weather postpones or cancels the entire play on the reserve day for IPL 2023 Final
Start Delay: If the match begins later than scheduled due to rain but before 9:35 p.m. local time, zero overs will be forfeited. The total overs will be lowered based on the start time if the match begins after 9:35 p.m. In this case, a 19-overs-a-side match will be played if the match starts by 9:45 p.m. (IST).
Cutoff for a Five-Overs-a-Side Match: In the case where the weather does not improve and the match is unable to conclude in the reduced-overs format, a five-overs-a-side contest will be played. For this scenario, the deadline is 12:06 am (IST).
Super Over: The winner will be chosen by a Super Over if the idea of a five-overs-a-side tiebreaker also proves problematic because of extended rain. The deadline for this backup plan is 1:20 am (IST).
Complete Washout: If a Super Over is unfortunately unable to be played due to heavy rainfall, the team that finished first in the league tournament will be declared the champion. According to the playing circumstances from the previous season, the Gujarat Titans claimed first place with 20 points, followed by the Chennai Super Kings in the second spot with 17 points.
Note: Please be aware that these scenarios may alter based on the circumstances and are subject to the specific regulations and laws implemented by the IPL regulatory body.
